Aditya Mittal, a 16-year-old chess player from Maharashtra, India, became the country’s 77th Grandmaster (GM) in December 2022.
Mittal achieved this milestone by drawing against Spanish Grandmaster Francisco Vallejo Pons during the Ellobregat Open tournament in Catalonia, Spain. This result pushed his live rating over 2500, the minimum requirement for GM title.
Mittal’s impressive chess journey began at the age of five when he first discovered the game. He quickly demonstrated his talent and started participating in tournaments at a young age. In 2019, he became an International Master (IM), the first step towards becoming a GM.
Mittal’s achievement is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and passion for chess. He joins the ranks of India’s elite chess players, adding another feather to the country’s illustrious chess history.
